Sherrye Johnson Trafton
An AQHA judge's expectations of you and your horse.
Sherrye Johnson Trafton co-owns Sable Oak Equestrian Center with her husband John Trafton. It is located in Brunswick, Maine since 1991. Sable Oak is a all-breed training facility offering disciplines in Western, Hunter, Dressage and Saddleseat instruction.
Sherrye is a Findlay College graduate Pre-Vet/Equine sciences in 1985 and a lifetime member of the AQHA, NSBA and Maine Quarter Horse Ass. She is also an AQHA Judge (2005), a NRHA judge (2007), a GHRA judge (2008), a NEHC ‘2’ western judge (2009) and since 1987 an All Breed, All Discipline Open Show Judge. Sherrye serves on the AQHA Youth Committee also the Region6 AQHA Board of Directors and the MeQHA Board of Directors. Sherrye holds memberships in NSBA, NRHA, NCHA, NBHA, USDF, USET, USEF, NEHC, GHRA and AQHA Professional Horseman along with memberships in the AQHA Region 6 Affiliates (Maine, NH, Vermont, Mass., CT., Quebec and the Maritimes).
She continues to teach and train at the Sable Oak 20 stall facility plus devotes 90 plus hours each week to Sable Oak’s horses and clients. Sherrye keeps a busy judging and competition schedule that can be seen in advance at the www.sableoak.com website.

Don Adams
Reining Clinic
Don has been training horses for 40 years. The first 25 he showed at AQHA shows. Don has developed AQHA Champions, Superior Halter and High-Point All-Around Horses.
The past 15 years have been spent showing at National Reining Horse Association, Reining Shows. He has won such prestigious awards as Morrison, Lawson and Pewter Trophies from NRHA.
Don and his wife Jo-Ann own and operate D&J Stables just outside of Moncton, New Brunswick.
They stand a Reining horse stallion "Colonial Whizard Joe" at their farm.
At present Don specializes and devotes his time to training reining horses, and be assured greatness is what Don will achieve with each horse.

Dr. Keith Murch
Identifying and Treating Lameness
Dr. Murch is a 1977 graduate of the University of Guelph and after graduation, returned to his native province of New Brunswick to work in the large animal clinic in Fredericton for the provincial government. He continues his clinical duties along with managing the Veterinary Field Services for the Department of Agriculture and Aquaculture. He is a member of the New Brunswick Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. Dr. Murch’s clinical expertise is with horses with special interest in lameness (and other performance related areas) and reproduction. He and his family live on a small hobby farm in Keswick Ridge along with their three Canadian horses, two goats and alpaca’s.

Herb Best
Starting a Young Horse
Herb Best has been showing horses successfully for 30 years. His circuit includes, The Maritime Provinces, Ontario, The New England States, and The All American Quarter Horse Congress. He trains horses for both showing and recreation. Herb prepares horses for weanling, junior, and aged halter, lunge line, western pleasure, hunter under saddle, horsemanship, equitation, trail, and showmanship. He coaches several youth and amateurs.
Herb has raised, bred, and shown several superior horses and AQHA Champions! As well, Herb has raised, bred and or shown several finalist and top 10 placings at the Quarter Horse Congress. |
John Perkins
Trail Class - Getting over obstacles.
John Perkins has been training and showing professionally for 30 years. He has earned the reputation for producing winning riders and show horses in both the English and Western events. John has campaigned horses to obtain Superior Awards in Halter, Western Pleasure and Trail, Register of Merits in several events. AQHA Championships, World Show Finalists and Congress Top 10.
His students have ranked in the top ten in the nation, have competed on the Canadian Team for the Youth World Cup and have won many high point awards at shows throughout New England, Quebec and the Maritimes. John operatesJohn and Wendy Perkins Quarters Horses at Butternut Stables in Hampton, New Brunswick along with his wife Wendy.
John is a Member of the American Quarter Horse Professional Horseman’s Association as well as several other affiliates and the American Paint Horse Association. |

Shandi Mitton
Horsemanship/Equitation - Ride the perfect pattern.
Shandi, along with her husband Jeremy, run a Boarding/Teaching/Training facility near Moncton, NB. Spruce Hollow Corral is currently home to 38 equine friends and each week finds Shandi teaching 30 youth and amateur students ranging from beginner to advanced levels in both Hunt Seat and Western disciplines.
Shandi is a Level One coach, a member of the AQHA, MQHA, NSBA, ApHCC, and NBEA. Shandi and her students have shown successfully in Showmanship, Horsemanship/Equitation, Western Pleasure, HUS, Halter and Trail at AQHA shows in New Brunswick, Maine & Region 6 Springfield, Mass. 2009 saw them enjoy their first trip as competitors to the AQHA Congress in Columbus, Ohio. Shandi also trains and teaches riders of the Appaloosa breed who have shown successfully in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Maine, achieving 5 National Championships in the 2009 Show Season.

Jill Renton

Jill Renton, owner of Scuffed Boots Photography, began her photography and design career shortly after graduating from the NBCC - Graphic Arts program in Woodstock, New Brunswick. While being brought up on a beef farm outside of Moncton, New Brunswick, and being a member of the Irishtown 4-H Club for 10 years, Jill was exposed to many different types of livestock, and bases most of her portfolio off of these influences.
In 2009, Jill was the official photographer for many different horse shows through the season, including the Sunrise Summer Classic, the Atlantic Appaloosa Horse Show, the ACAHA Show, the Appaloosa Classic, the Old Home Week Western light horse show, the NB 4H Provincial Show and the NB Percheron Association show.
Jill currently offers a full range of photography and graphic design services, specializing in equine and livestock marketing.

Wendy Hudson
Western Learn to Ride Program
This session will be a brief overview of the National Western Coaching Program offered through Equine Canada. Wendy Hudson is the Master Course Conductor for Western Coaching in New Brunswick. This demonstrate will cover the requirements of the first 4 Rider Levels. A Question and Answer assembly will be held following the demonstration for anyone interested in the rider programs or the Instructor/Coach Programs
The Learn to Ride program was developed to provide new riders with a safe and knowledgeable introduction to Western riding. The purpose of the Learn to Ride program is to produce safe and knowledgeable horseman and to assist in the development of future instructors and coaches.
The Learn to Ride program is a national program with national standards that rewards all riders, recreational to competitive, for advancing their learning with Certificates of Achievement. This program encourages all riders to ride, learn and enjoy the sport of riding while providing guidelines to coaches and instructors.
The Western Learn to Ride program is based on the Western Learn to Ride and Intermediate Rider manuals, which evaluates an individual's skills, through levels 1-4 as well as an intermediate level, in a variety of areas covered in the manuals. To participate in the Western Learn to Ride program riders do not require their own horse, but are expected to work with a certified Equine Canada coach to prepare for testing.
Prior to taking a Western Rider assessment, Western Rider 1-4 and Intermediate candidates must be recognized as current members of their Provincial equestrian federation and their Examiners must be a fully certified and current EC Western Coach. |
